Washington: US President Donald Trump has described the Strait of Hormuz as a potential 'fountain of oil' for the world. In a post on the social media platform Truth Social on Friday, he wrote, "After a little more time, we can easily open the Strait of Hormuz, take the oil, and make a lot of money." This statement comes at a time when the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran has entered its second month. The Donald Trump administration has repeatedly stated that this war will end within a few weeks, but the reality on the ground suggests otherwise.

How was Donald Trump's statement received?

Donald Trump's statement has further escalated regional tensions. The Strait of Hormuz is the most critical route for global oil exports, through which approximately 20 percent of the world's oil passes. If this strait were to be opened up, it could have a profound impact on the global oil market. Many observers view Trump's remarks as a strategy to increase pressure on Iran. He asserted that this would not only secure oil supplies but also benefit the world at large. However, Iran has already warned that it will take severe retaliatory action in the event of any attack on its energy facilities or infrastructure.

Has Iran Threatened Retaliatory Action?

A spokesperson for Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters issued a stern warning on Friday. He stated that if any attack were launched against Iran's bridges, power plants, or energy facilities, the bases of the US, Israel, and their allied nations would face attacks even more forceful and devastating than before. The spokesperson also warned countries hosting US military bases that if they wish to remain safe, they must expel US forces from their territories.

Iran has made it clear that it is prepared to go to any lengths to defend its critical facilities. The conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran is now in its second month. While the Trump administration claims that the war will end soon, the situation remains uncertain. Trump's statement regarding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz could have implications for both global oil supplies and regional security. Experts believe that if a major conflict were to erupt in this strait, global oil prices could skyrocket, impacting the entire global economy.
